Why 8/23 and 8/24

We didn't pick these dates at random. August 23rd is Kobe's birthday. And August 24th - 8/24 - is Mamba Day, the league-wide tribute to the two numbers he wore, 8 and 24, across a 20-year career spent entirely in purple and gold.

There's no better window to celebrate the man than the 48 hours the basketball world already sets aside for him. So that's exactly how long the Mamba Pack will be live. When the clock hits midnight on the 24th, it's gone — and it isn't coming back.

Why $81

The price is a tribute too. On January 22, 2006, Kobe dropped 81 points on the Toronto Raptors - the second-highest single-game total in NBA history, behind only Wilt Chamberlain's 100. It's a number that's become shorthand for a certain kind of unstoppable: one man, one night, refusing to lose.

So the Mamba Pack costs $81. One dollar for every point.
